Dans cet article, je vais vous parler du projet qui a occupé beaucoup de mes journées ces derniers mois : mon cosplay de Warrior Disney Princess (je ne suis jamais certaine de l’ordre dans lequel je dois mettre ces mots …).
Après notre premier cosplay de groupe en personnages DC Comics, nous avons décidé de remettre ça avec Disney. Mais pas question de jouer les princesses nunuches : passer le balai et broder des coussins, ce n’est pas trop notre truc. Nous ce qu’on aime, c’est botter les fesses des gens. Nous avons donc choisi de revisiter les personnages Disney à la sauce guerrière.
Assez étonnement j’ai décidé de travailler sur le personnage de Blanche-Neige (“étonnement”, oui, car souvenez-vous, dans cet article je disais clairement que je n’aimais pas Blanche-Neige qui est, je cite, ” une grosse cruchasse “). Cependant le cosplay a comme avantage de permettre la réinterprétation d’un personnage et je me suis dit qu’il était temps que Blanche-Neige fasse autre chose que la vaisselle. J’avais d’abord imaginé faire un cosplay de la Belle-au-bois-dormant car j’aime beaucoup dormir, mais l’idée de devoir créer un costume tout rose façon Barbie ne m’enthousiasmait pas plus que ça.

Et si cela vous intéresse vraiment, je m’en vais de ce pas vous décrire par le menu les détails de la création de ce cosplay. J’avais à un moment imaginé en faire une vidéo et peut-être m’occuperais-je un jour du montage (on me voit essentiellement en train de galérer avec la machine à coudre ou de montrer fièrement comment on découpe du tissu) mais ma connexion internet actuelle – pourrie – m’empêche de charger quoi que ce soit d’un peu lourd sur Viméo. Du coup il faudra vous contenter de mes descriptions écrites.
Avant toute chose, il faut imaginer à quoi va ressembler le-dit cosplay. Alors, dans les faits, j’ai acheté mon tissu avant d’y réfléchir car je partais ensuite de Paris et je n’aurais donc pas pu aller au marché Saint Pierre. Du coup quand le vendeur me demandait quelle quantité couper je marmonnais ” euh une cape c’est grand … 2 mètres ? non … 4 mètres ? euh non, 3 mètres c’est bien ! “. Du coup j’ai une petite cape (mais c’est bien c’est ce que j’avais prévu).
C’est important d’imaginer votre cosplay car de cette façon vous pourrez faire vos emplettes sans retourner 52 fois au magasin de bricolage. Bien sûr, le résultat final dévie souvent un peu de votre idée ; soit par manque de temps ou par manque de connaissances techniques. Pour ma part, je me suis d’abord occupée de tout ce qui était en tissu en me disant que je verrai ensuite ce que j’avais le temps de faire.
Cette fois-ci j’ai décidé de ne pas faire les choses n’importe comme (c’est-à-dire de ne pas découper complètement à l’arrache le tissu qui m’a coûté un rein). La solution : acheter du papier de soie pour y dessiner ou recopier des patrons. Malheureusement pour mon haut, je n’ai pas trouvé de patron gratuit sur internet donc j’ai… improvisé. Je vous épargne les détails de mon étude approfondie du haut d’une robe H&M. Une fois ma forme dessinée et découpée, je l’ai épinglée sur le tissu et j’ai découpé en laissant une marge de 2-3 cm pour les ourlets.
Après le haut, j’ai cousu la jupe puis la cape. Niveau jupe, il n’y a rien de plus simple et il y a des milliers de patrons gratuits sur internet, mais même sans ça, ce n’est pas bien compliqué. Il suffit de dessiner un gros gros cercle dont le rayon sera la longueur de votre jupe + l’espace qu’il faut à votre bidou. Au milieu de ce cercle de tissu, vous faites un trou dont la circonférence est un peu plus petite que celle de votre taille si vous prévoyez un ourlet.
Ensuite, j’ai décidé de créer un gros bandeau de tissu pour la taille, mais avant de “fermer” le bandeau, j’ai épinglé du tulle sous la jupe.
Ensuite, j’ai cousu tout ça, hop hop hop.
Et ensuite j’ai replié le bandeau vers l’intérieur pour éviter que le tulle ne vienne me chatouiller. Si ce n’est pas clair, je m’en excuse. Je ne suis pas certaine que cette technique soit la plus efficace car cela rend la ceinture de la jupe relativement épaisse. Snow White étant une allemande sûrement adepte des Wursts, on dira que ça renforce le réalisme du personnage.
Je n’ai pas de photos pour la création de la cape, mais dîtes-vous que c’est à peu près le même topo que la jupe. Un gros cercle avec un trou au milieu. J’ai longtemps hésite car il existe plusieurs façons de faire des capes mais je voulais vraiment pouvoir la porter sur les épaules : je suis plutôt frileuse. Je n’ai cependant pas gardé un cercle complet, j’en ai enlevé environs un tiers pour ne pas que la cape ait trop de plis. Le moment le moins marrant a été quand il a fallu coudre la doublure rouge… (comme ça, ça a l’air simple, mais essayez pour voir).
Je pense que je ferai un autre article pour les accessoires (ceinture, gant d’archer, protèges-bras, protèges-tibias, dague, arc, flèches …) car l’heure tourne et cet article commence à être trop long.
Je vais juste revenir quelques instants sur ma perruque. Si vous commandez en dehors de la France, commandez TRÈS en avance car parfois, la perruque prendra des chemins insoupçonnés entre l’aéroport et chez vous (merci La Poste!). Genre trois mois en avance; ou quatre. Sinon, commandez en France.

In this blog post, I am going to talk about the project which kept me busy those last months : my Warrior Disney Princess cosplay.
After our last group cosplay embodying DC comics characters, we decided to do it again with Disney. But there was no way we would be dumb princesses: sweeping the floor or embroidering cushions is not our thing. What we like is kicking asses. So we chose to revisit Disney characters with a warrior touch.
Surprisingly enough, I decided to work on a Snow White cosplay (“surprisingly” because I did not use to like Snow White). However, cosplay has the advantage to let you reinterpret a character and I thought that it was time Snow White stopped doing the disheses. I first thought I could do a Sleeping Beauty cosplay but the idea of creating a pink costume, Barbie style, did not excite me that much.
If you are interested by my cosplay, take a look at my Pinterest board. I used it before I started and then all along the creation of the cosplay. I also imagined making a video but I still need to edit it (and you basically see me trying to use the sewing machine or cutting proudly some fabric) and Internet is so slow right now that I would not be able to upload it anyway. So, you’re stuck with my written descriptions.
Before all, you need to imagine what your cosplay will look like. Which I did not do. I bought my fabric before thinking about it because I was leaving Paris soon after and absolutely wanted to go to Saint Pierre market. The result was that when the vendor was asking me how much fabric I needed, I was not sure and I ended up with a small cloak. But that’s okay, it is what I wanted after all.
It is important to think about it because it will spare you going back 52 times to the store. Of course, the final result may differ a little bit from what you imagined because of a lack of time or a lack of knowledge. First, I took care of everything that was made from fabric thinking that I will see what time was left to make the rest.
This time, I also decided to do it right (and by that I mean not cutting my expensive fabrics without any patern). The solution : buy some tissue paper so I could draw my own pattern. I could not find any free pattern for the top, so I studied a dress and improvised. When the pattern was made, I cut it and pinned it on the fabric. I cut the fabric around it with a 2-3 cm margin for the hemstitch.
After the top, I sewed the skirt. For the skirt, it is really simple and you have tons of free patterns on internet, but even without any pattern it is not very hard. You just have to draw a big circle and make a hole in the center big enough for your waist (make it a little smaller if you intend to do hemstitch).
Then, I decided to create a waistband, but before “closing” it, I pinned some tulle fabric under the skirt. After that, I folded the waistband on the inside to avoid the tulle fabric tickling me. I am not sure that this technic is the best because, as a result, the waistband is quite thick. Let’s say that because Snow White is german, she must have liked Wurst sausages and the thick waistband strengthen the realism of the character.
I don’t have any picture of the cloak making process, but it is quite similar to the skirt making process. A big circle of fabric with a hole in the middle. I hesitated a long time because there are many ways to make a cloak, but I really wanted to be able to use it and put it on my shoulders: I fear the cold. However, I did not keep the entire circle, I withdrew one third of it so the cloak would not have too many pleats. The less funny part was when I had to sew the red lining (it seems simple, but try it !)
I think I will do another blog post about the props (the belt, gauntlet, armor, knife, bow, arrows etc.) because it is late and the post is quite long enough.
I just want to say on word about the wig. If you ever order outside of your country, order it a long time before you need it, because sometimes the wig will get lost between the airport and your home. Do it 3 months before. Or 4. Or just order in your country.
I will wear this cosplay for the first time at Polymanga in Switzerland. If you go there too, beware of a group of princesses armed to the teeth :3
